Virginia Eppes Oxnard Palmer

SAVANNAH - Virginia Eppes Oxnard Palmer, 89, died at her home in Savannah, Georgia on October 24, 2016.
Virginia (Ginny) was born January 22, 1927 in London, England to Benjamin A. Oxnard and Virginia Hitch Oxnard. She grew up in Savannah before her family moved to Denver, CO when she was 12. She graduated from Smith College in 1948, and in 1950 married George Bradford (Brad) Palmer, Jr. They lived in Woodbury, CT where they raised their three daughters. Ginny was the chairman of the Democratic Town Committee and Library Commission and a member of the Woodbury Zoning Commission, jury commission and Town Board of Education. She was a ranked New England tennis player and a member of The Marvelous Mothers field hockey team.
In 1995, Ginny and Brad moved to The Landings for part of the year, and in 2007 moved to The Marshes. Ginny had many interests including reading, gardening, bridge and music. She was active in book clubs, bridge groups and gardening clubs in both CT and GA. She was a member of the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America.
Ginny is survived by her daughters Page Palmer and Robbie Hertneky, sons-in-law Steve Butkus and Paul Hertneky, grandchildren Peter Butkus and his wife Andrea Snyder and Laura Butkus, and great grandchild Eliza Butkus. She is also survived by her sister Robbie Oxnard and her friend Dan Rossiter, brother and sister-in-law Henry and Susan Oxnard, sister-in-law Elizabeth Oxnard and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years and her daughter Laura.
A memorial service will be held at the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 2:00pm.
